How very sad and tragic...
Director Tony Scott has died in an apparent suicide on Sunday according to THR.
A suicide note was found inside Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of Vincent Thomas Bridge near Long Beach, California.
Scott climbed a fence on the south side of the suspension bridge's apex and "leapt off without hesitation". His body was recovered after the jump according to the L.A. County Coroner.
The younger brother of fellow film director Ridley Scott whom he also produced many shows and films with, had his own trademark style in the blockbuster action genre thanks to a successful collaboration with producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer.
His feature directorial debut was the vampire movie The Hunger starring Susan Sarandon, David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. The film wasn't a critical success but it attracted attention from Hollywood. He was asked by producers Simpson and Bruckheimer to direct Top Gun starring Tom Cruise--which made him a mega star and put Scott on the industy radar
He would work again with Cruise on the racing film Days of Thunder. He helmed the sequel Beverly Hills Cop II with Eddie Murphy.
In 1993, he directed True Romance, which was written by emerging director Quentin Tarantino It remains one of my favorite films of the decade
Scott has worked five times with actor Denzel Washington with Crimson Tide The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 remake, Deja Vu Man on Fire and Scott's final film Unstoppable.
My heart breaks for Sir Ridley and the rest of the Scott family....
