Sony Pictures still has plans to make an English-language version of Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo follow-up "The Girl Who Played with Fire"-- things are just moving slowly.
Screenwriter Steven Zaillian--who penned the adapted script of David Fincher's 'Tattoo' tells EW that he's still hard at work on the screenplay though the earliest the sequel could hit theaters would be 2014 and not late 2013 as previously hoped.
The next book in the series is set a year later. Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) is approached by a young journalist couple with a meticulously researched thesis about Swedish sex trafficking ring invoving high-ranking public and private figures. When both they and Lisbeth Salander's (Rooney Mara) abusive former guardian is found murdered, Lisbeth is pegged as the prime suspect. The trail leads to a dark incident in Lisbeth's past and a mysterious figure known only as 'Zala' who is the key to everything.
It remains to be seen if Fincher will return to direct, he is the first choice but isn't attached and there seems to be no rush here. Both Mara and Craig are already signed to do the trilogy.
