Beattie Pens "Bone" Script; Roth Nabs "Brilliance".

Stuart Beattie ("Collateral," "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra") is set to write the adapted screenplay for the young adult fantasy film adaptation of author Laini Taylor’s trilogy "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" says THR.

The story follows a 17-year-old art student whose father occasionally sends her on errands around the world collecting human teeth for a mysterious purpose. She gradually becomes aware that she is part of an ancient struggle between devils and angels and finds herself in a forbidden romance with a warrior angel.

Joe Roth ("Alice in Wonderland" and Oz The Great and Powerful) will produce the film

Meantime Heat Vision reports that Roth and Palak Patel have picked up the film rights to author Marcus Sakey's upcoming novel "Brilliance".

The story takes place in a world where a rare set of people are born with extraordinary abilities and are called “brilliants.” At the center of the story is a federal agent with great hunting gifts who is drafted to hunt down a terrorist, another such brilliant who intends to start a civil war.

A writer is currently being sought to adapt the script.

The book is due to hit stores this Summer
