Michael Angarano is set to join the remake of Heat says Deadline.
No, director Simon West is not redoing Michael Mann's 1995 crime thriller classic. This film is based on the Burt Reynolds-led 1986 action film of the same name about an ex-mercenary turned Vegas bouncer.
William Goldman, who wrote the original film, is also writing the remake.
The updated pic will see a tough recovering gambling addict (Jason Statham) who makes a living providing protection. When a dear friend (Modern Family star Sofia Vergara) is brutally beaten by a high-rolling mobster, he helps her get her revenge and he ends up in more trouble than he ever imagined.
Angarano will play the role of Cyrus Kinnick, a tech billionaire who hires Nick as a bodyguard and gambling tutor. Peter MacNicol co-starred as Cyrus in the original film.
Brian De Palma was previously linked to helm but has vacated.
Statham is producing the movie with Steve Chasman.
Corey Yuen is serving as the film's fight choreographer.
No production timetable was given.
West and Statham previously worked together on another remake, 2011's "The Mechanic" and the action sequel The Expendables 2.
