Sarandon, Bates & Duplass Travel With "Tammy"

Susan Sarandon is in talks to join the raunchy road trip comedy Tammy says THR.

The story centers on an unemployed woman ("Bridesmaids" actress Melissa McCarthy) who discovers her husband is having an affair and decides to go on a road trip with her alcoholic, foul-mouthed, diabetic grandmother (Sarandon).

Shirley MacLaine was in talks to star as said Grandmother but a deal could not be reached.

Kathy Bates, who was also just cast, will play the grandmother’s lesbian friend who saves the duo from some bad spots. Per Deadline Mark Duplass will play a man that the pair meet along the way who develops a strange relationship with McCarthy

McCarthy co-wrote the script with husband Ben Falcone from which they will make their feature film directorial debut.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are producing, along with Mellissa McCarthy. Kevin Messick, Chris Henchy, Falcone and Rob Cowan are executive producing the pic.
