"Dredd" Sequel? Don't Think So

Despite the whispers to the contrary--there will NOT be a sequel to last year's "Dredd"

The original British comic created by John Wagner was much darker and grittier than the big-budget 1995 film version starring Sylvester Stallone that was a stinker....The reviews were much much better for the reboot that starred Karl Urban Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey as the villain Madeline "Ma-Ma" Madrigal --and it was more in line with the original vision.

During a recent Reddit online Q&A chat, producer Adi Shankar was surprisingly candid about why the sequel is not happening:

"It’s because the movie totally bombed & R-rated movies are a tough sell to begin with. If Dredd becomes a cult hit it will be awesome. Last September was a terrible month: Dredd bombed and then Looper became a massive hit a week later!"

Shankar adds that he is working on a "Dredd" short film in the vein of "Dirty Laundry," a Punisher-themed short fan film he and Thomas Jane did together last year.
