Fincher's "20,000 Leagues" Gets Pushed Back

David Fincher's proposed adaptation of Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo" has been put on hold Disney says SMH,

Originally due to start production in Sydney next month, a spokeswoman confirms the film won't start until 2014.

At last report Andrew Kevin Walker was tasked to re-write the script.

The delay comes about because of casting issues after Brad Pitt changed his mind about playing the lead role of Ned Land--the role that legend Kirk Douglas played in the 1954 film version. A veteran A-List star will likely be asked to play Captain Nemo.

Channing Tatum was mentioned as a possible replacement for Pitt but the notion was quickly dropped

This follows a month after the Australian federal government earmarked $21.6 million for incentives to lure the production to Australia.
