Haynes Steps In To Direct "Carol"

Filmmaker Todd Haynes ("I'm Not There," "Far from Heaven")  is set to direct the film adaptation of author Patricia Highsmith's "Carol" (aka "The Price Of Salt") says Screen Daily.

The film traces the complex relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York. One is a twenty-something girl (Mia Wasikowska) working in a department store who dreams of a more fulfilling life, the other is a wife trapped in a loveless marriage (Cate Blanchett)

Phyllis Nagy penned the adapted script.

Boy A direcror was previously linked as director but vacated over scheduling conflicts.

Haynes' regular collaborator Christine Vachon will co-produce. Haynes and Blanchett worked together on "I'm Not There".
