Mara Steps In For Wasikowska On "Carol"

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "Side Effects" actress Rooney Mara is set to replace Mia Wasikowska in the film adaptation of author Patricia Highsmith's "Carol" (aka "The Price Of Salt") says Screen.


The film traces the complex relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York. One is a twenty-something girl (Mara) working in a department store who dreams of a more fulfilling life, the other is a wife trapped in a loveless marriage (Cate Blanchett)

Phyllis Nagy penned the adapted script. Filmmaker Todd Haynes ("I'm Not There," "Far from Heaven")  is set to direct the film

Boy A director was previously linked as director but vacated over scheduling conflicts.

Elizabeth Karlsen, Stephen Woolley and Christine Vachon will produce.

Haynes and Blanchett worked together on "I'm Not There".

Production begins in the Spring.
