"The Avengers: Age of Ultron" for writer/director Joss Whedon gives EW new details about the new origin story the robot villain Ultron is getting for the sequel--Since it's already been established that the movie NOT follow the Age of Ultron comics storyline.
Whedon says the approach to this cinematic version of the character will be more grounded. As a side effect it means he'll have less power than this comic cousin.
"As a character, I love him because he's so pissed off. I knew right away what I wanted to do with him. He's always trying to destroy the Avengers, god***n it, he's got a bee in his bonnet. He's not a happy guy, which means he's an interesting guy. He's got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we'll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone [a new character, Scarlet Witch] who's a witch."
Marvel vets Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans Chris Hemsworth Scarlett Johansson Samuel L. Jackson Jeremy Renner Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg and Cobie Smulders are all expected back for the sequel.
"Martha Marcy May Marlene" and "Silent House" star Elizabeth Olsen has reportedly become the now the frontrunner for the role of Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch. "Kick-Ass 2" star Aaron Taylor-Johnson remains the frontrunner to play Wanda's brother Quicksilver.
Production is due to begin in February to meet a release date of May 1, 2015.
