Dutch Southern has come onboard to pen gender switch riff of the star-studded action franchise. Southern previously wrote "Hoof Harrington's Greatest Hits" which made the 2010 Black List.
Former MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano ("Haywire") and Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica") are also set to star
Several other prominent actresses affiliated with the action genre are already said to be in talks as well.
Among those female action stars on a wish list of potentials Linda Hamilton, Cynthia Rothrock, Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Ann Moss, Michelle Rodriguez, Uma Thurman, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Yeoh and Summer Glau.
Adi Shankar ("The Grey," "Machine Gun Preacher") will produce the project.
A 2nd film of its kind is in the works called Expendabelles written by "Legally Blonde" scribes Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith over at Millennium Films--home of the original Expendables film series
