The studio is still  making a deal with Steinbeck's estate for the feature rights to the 1939 book. Steven Steven Spielberg is due to produce, but will not direct.

The 1939 Great Depression-era novel tells the tale of a poor family of tenant farms driven from their Oklahoma home by drought.
