RDJ Goes See-Saw About Iron Man 4

Making rounds for his Friday film "The Judge," Robert Downey Jr was asked about the potential for another Iron Man Film by Ellen DeGeneres on her show yesterday.

He said "I know there's going to be a bunch more Marvel movies. And they have big ideas of how to do it best and we're in the middle of negotiation...".

DeGeneres then asked him for a straight-up answer to which he said "Okay, yes!".

By late night though, Downey walked things back and in general told David Letterman:

"There's no plans for an Iron Man 4. There's no script for Iron Man 4, but they do have a plan and I think they're going to announce it...they've very secretive about it."

Letterman also asked for a straight up answer to the question of a fourth "Iron Man": "Just between us, no, but I'm going to do other stuff with Marvel. I'm still going to be involved with Marvel and there's gonna be plenty of fun stuff to happen."

Downey continued teasing an upcoming big announcement from Marvel in a Reddit AMA. Asked about comments last week that he would like his friend Mel Gibson to direct the fourth "Iron Man" film, he said:

"It was an offhanded remark to a journalist and friend. I have other projects in mind for Mel and I - sooner than later the Marvel Roster will be made public and all questions will be answered."

During that chat, he was asked about the possibility of him doing a cameo on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D":

"Nothing is impossible. But there might be a fair amount of red tape involved in something like that. I love Clark Gregg, and am pleased the show is doing so well."
