Deadline reports that Amber Heard is in negotiations to join the long planned true-life film titled “The Danish Girl".
Based on David Ebershoff's book about the life story of Danish painter Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) who in 1931 became the first person to go through a sex-change operation to become a woman. His wife, the fashion illustrator Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander) asked him to stand in for an absent female model. Putting on a dress, stockings and woman’s shoes he began a metamorphosis into Lili. When the photos became very popular, Greta encouraged her husband to do more. The harmless game evolved into something more and threatened their marriage. Greta finally let go when she realized the man she married no longer existed.
Heard is eyed for the role of Oola.
Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In) was attached to make the picture his English-language directorial debut in 2009, with Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron in the lead roles. He made the remake of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy instead. Theron was replaced with Gwyneth Paltrow as Lasse Hallström came on to direct, with Rachel Weisz joining, only to depart as well.
Les Misérables director Tom Hooper will helm from an adapted script by Lucinda Coxon.
Hooper, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner Gail Mutrux, Anne Harrison and Linda Reisman are producing the film.
