JVCD Lands Big Role In "Kickboxer" Redux

ScreenDaily reports that Jean-Claude Van Damme is joining the cast of the 3-D remake of his 1989 action flick "Kickboxer".


The story follows David and Kurt Sloan, the descendants of a well-known Californian fighting dynasty. When David wins the Karate World Championship, a promoter lures him to Hong Kong, despite his brother's protestations that the man is a crook.When Kurt (Alain Moussi) travels to Thailand to meet his brother, he discovers he has died at the hands of Tong Po (WWE superstar Dave Bautista) and seeks his revenge with the help of Xian Chow - a famous trainer living in a remote part of the country..

 In the new version, Van Damme will take on the Xian Chow role that Tony Jaa was set to play. UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre also stars in the update.

Stephen Fung will call action on the film using a script by Dimitri Logothetis and Jim McGrath.

 Ted Field, Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi will produce the pic.

Production begins this week in New Orleans and Thailand.

Mark Disalle directed the original which starred Van Damme and world kickboxing champion Dennis Alexio. JCVD's  1988 film Bloodsport and the 1994 Peter Hyams’ film Timecop are getting remakes as well.
