A number of weeks ago the Hollywood Reporter stated in an article that script for W. Oliver Stone's upcoming biopic on President George W. Bush will portray him as a foul-mouthed, reformed drunk obsessed with baseball, Saddam Hussein and a conflicted relationship with his dad...
In the May 16th issue of Entertainment Weekly Stone addresses those reports and more as Benjamin Svetkey goes inside the director's dark, comic, and already controversial movie about George W. Bush's rise to power
The director on why it's wrong to judge his movie on a first draft, and his goal of ''a magic realism biography''
Even as Stone promises a fair depiction of the President, he admits that the script written by Stanley Weiser (Wall Street) is drawn from many sources--including books by those with an axe to grind...
Let's just say that after reading the article and noting that the film has been set for a US domestic release on October 17th, giving the picture three weekends in theaters before the November 4th presidential election--I'm a little dubious of Stone's fairness claim...
Maybe Rob Corddry who has snagged the role of press secretary Ari Fleischer (as reported by MTV) should go out and hold daily press briefings during production to help combat claims of inaccuracies...
Still, I'm sure it will be a very watchable film...I just question the timing of it all....
