Ridley Rides Red

The seemingly always busy Ridley Scott just got busier...

He is in negotiations to direct a remake the three-part U.K. miniseries "Red Riding" says Variety.

The original, which was based on a four novel series by David Peace, is a study of power and police corruption framed around the investigation of the disappearance of several young girls in a case based on the real life Yorkshire Ripper killings.

All three feature-length parts were shot with different helmers using different cameras- Julian Jarrold helmed the first part using 16mm film, James Marsh' the second in 35MM Cinemascope, and Anand Tucker the third with the Red One digital camera.

The miniseries was based on a "Quartet" of novels by David Peace and aired in March 2009 as three feature-length episodes, which took place in 1974 1980 and 1983.

The first story centers around a reporter (Andrew Garfield) who investigates the abductions of several Yorkshire-area girls. His efforts are hampered by corrupt local police, who have been paid off by a greedy businessman (Sean Bean) trying to build a mall in the area.

The mini gets a limited US theatrical release this fall.

The film remake will transport the location from the UK to the US.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Steven Zaillian ("Schindler's List") is in talks to write the script.

Sounds like a must see...
