Shell Game

Writer Laeta Kalogridis will pen a 3-D live-action American adaptation of the classic Japanese manga "Ghost in the Shell ." says Variety.



Kalogridis takes over the position after writer Jamie Moss (Street Kings) left the project..he himself came on after Jamie Moss was originally hired as screenwriter when the property was bought last year

The story follows the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime.

The Manga from 1989- Ghost In The Shell lead to anime film and TV adaptations, chief of which was Mamoru Oshii's 1995 film which is considered a milestone in anime and one of the first films in the genre to crossover outside Japan.

The second anime film, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence was released in the U.S in 2004.

Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul will produce the pic.
