A studio spokesman declined to comment on the potential casting.

Last week the spokes-suits also denied that Eddie Redmayne is playing the lead in the film, a report which first surfaced at The Playlist.

That site though is sticking by its story claiming their sources are "confident about the tip."

The pic is an adaptation of based on Michael Morpurgo's bestselling 1982 novel--The story follows the bond between a farmer's son and his horse who are separated but who find their fates continue to intertwine over the course of the Great War. The horse is sold to the army and finds itself in the midst of the fighting on the Western Front and becomes inspiration for the soldiers around him.

Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, The Wind in the Willows) and Richard Curtis are adapting the screenplay for Spielberg Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Revel Guest to produce.

The film is currently scheduled for release on August 10th 2011
