Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin are all in negotiations to join the crime drama saga The Gangster Squad says Deadline.
Based on a series of LA Times articles, the true story tale follows a secret "off the record" police task force in the 1940 who pursued high-profile gangster Mickey Cohen (Penn), a member of the so-called Jewish Mob.
Will Beall, a former LAPD officer who patrolled South Central and wrote the novel L.A. Rex penned the script.
Variety had word last month that Penn and Gosling were respectively offered the roles of Cohen and one of the two cops assigned to bring him down. Now they're in active talks along with Brolin who will play the other cop.
Ruben Fleischer ("Zombieland") directs the film
Dan Lin and Kevin McCormick are producing.
Shooting kicks off this Fall

A hardscrabble Brolin teaming-up with an naively optimistic Gosling to take down Penn’s over-the-top Jewish kingpin
Not sure if Brolin is Aryan-enough for the job. Jude Law would be my first choice to take down a Jew. It’s the hairline.
