THR reports that Boardwalk Empire's Michael Stuhlbarg has joined the long in the works Bobby Fischer biopic "Pawn Sacrifice".

Ed Zwick directs the Cold War-set film that stars Tobey Maguire as Fischer, the youngest grand master in the history of chess and a young man prone to unpredictable outbursts. In 1972, he became the first American to reach the finals and engaged in a showdown against the seemingly invincible Soviet master Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber).

Stuhlbarg will play Fischer’s advisor and attorney in the film

American Horror Story's Lily Rabe will play Fischer’s sister Joan and Peter Sarsgaard will play a priest who became a close confidant of Fischer.

Stephen Knight wrote the script.
