Captain America 3: The Iron Man Factor

Last night we learned that Robert Downey Jr. is going to join "Captain America 3" .

It appears that the film will be an adaptation of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War storyline that sees Iron Man at odds with Captain America (Chris Evans) over the Superhero Registration Act - a law that forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their identities to the U.S. government and agree to act as a police force for the authorities. Stark supports the program, Rogers does not because it threatens civil liberties. As a result Rogers and various others go on the run to avoid arrest. The life of Cap's girlfriend, Agent 13  (Revenge star Emily VanCamp), is torn apart as her superiors use her divided loyalties against her. Elsewhere, a new villain emerges; the Red Skull begins to make himself known; and The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) .again comes face-to-face with Cap....

The adapted script comes from Cap vets Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Production on the next film is slated to begin next April in Atlanta, Georgia. The studio has targeted a May 6th 2016 release.

Today, further details have come to light.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD

Badass Digest reports that RDJ's scenes will require 30 or 40 days of filming in the film--and that  Joss Whedon's superhero team up sequel "The Avengers: Age of Ultron kicks all this off and by the end Tony Stark retires from being Iron Man because he feels responsible for Ultron's actions.

This is in line with reports that Steve Rogers will be leading a new team of 'Avengers' at the end of 'Ultron' that will include supporting characters from the previous films.

The site says Marvel is currently thinking that either the "Civil War" or "Fallen Son" for the title of  the third film with the latter getting the most traction. In fact, Evans' Steve Rogers may not even be in a third "Avengers" as by the end of the third "Captain America" film: "the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be in a tough, dark place, with the heroes scattered and defeated."

That will reportedly continue through a third "Avengers" and leave the world open to the threat of Thanos-(Josh Brolin) in a potential fourth film--NOT the third as previously suggested.

END SPOILERS

The site also says that Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo are essentially set to become the caretakers of the MCU after Whedon departs. The brothers are not just set to helm the third "Captain America", but the site adds that they are also in talks to helm the third AND possibly the fourth "Avengers" film.

Meanwhile the casting of Downey in Cap 3 could potentially impact his other projects says THR. Downey has been in talks to star in Sherlock Holmes 3 and a big screen take on "Perry Mason," along with developing the treasure hunting adventure "Yucatan," all of these could well be impacted or delayed by his new 'Captain' commitments.
