RDJ Joins "Captain America 3"

Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly in final negotiations to join "Captain America 3" says Variety.

The film will be an adaptation of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War storyline that sees Iron Man ay odds with Captain America (Chris Evans) over the Superhero Registration Act - a law that forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their identities to the U.S. government and agree to act as a police force for the authorities. Stark supports the program, Rogers does not because it threatens civil liberties. As a result Rogers and various others go on the run to avoid arrest. The life of Cap's girlfriend, Agent 13  (Revenge star Emily VanCamp), is torn apart as her superiors use her divided loyalties against her. Elsewhere, a new villain emerges; the Red Skull begins to make himself known; and The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) .again comes face-to-face with Cap....

The story turns Stark into something of a villain--the fallout will affect the future films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe including a fourth "Avengers" and solo films for new characters.

It was denied last month that "Civil War" would be the basis for the new movie.

RDJ is expected to score $40 million plus backend participation for "Captain America 3," a figure that will go higher if the film outperforms the $714 million made by Cap 2 This news explains why Downey would not confirm Iron Man 4 but did hint at something bigger on the stump for "The Judge" last week.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo are set to call the shots once again using an adapted script from  Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Production on the next film is slated to begin next April in Atlanta, Georgia. The studio has targeted a May 6th 2016 release.
