Javier Bardem has departed from the lead role in the film adaptation of the musical "Nine " says Variety.
Bardem had been all but set to play Guido Contini, a film director who experiences personal and creative crisis trying to balance all the women in his life.
Bardem's people say he pulled out because he is exhausted from work and awards season and will take up to a year off.
The actor was ready to make the film late last year, but it production got pushed back due to the writer's strike at a time when script revisions were needed.
"Chicago" helmer Rob Marshall is directing the musical adaptation.
Bardem seemed like the perfect fit for the role--It would appear as though Marshall would have a tough time filling the vacancy.
