The Canadian mercenary was originally only supposed to make cameo in the film But that role has been expanded into a supporting player with "most of the footage shot including Reynolds and Hugh Jackman."
In the comics, the character is also a part of the Weapon X program who acquires regenerative abilities derived from Wolverine himself. In the comics that operation leaves him disfigured and mentally unstable, resorting to him wearing a mask.
Recent photos of Reynolds as the character didn't show any mask or disfigurement though it's expected to be depicted in some way in the final film.
Assuming this is the case...I'm all for it...
Reynolds was one reason that Smokin' Aces worked so well...and was a highlight in Blade: Trinity...He has the capacity to steal the show in action flicks. Might we even see a Deadpool feature down the line?
