G-Man

Jim Sheridan is developing a film about notorious Boston mobster turned FBI informant James "Whitey" Bulger reports Variety.

Sheridan and Nye Heron are adapting Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill 's book"Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob" for Sheridan to direct.

Bulger rose to prominence in Boston as a feared enforcer and starting the Winter Hill Gang for everything from selling drugs to procuring guns for the Irish Republican Army. His rise was helped by John Connolly, a childhood buddy who became an FBI agent. Bulger vanished 14 years ago, creating a major law enforcement scandal.

Bulger was said the main inspiration for Jack Nicholson's crime kingpin character in "The Departed ".

Filming is slated to begin later this year.
