Cate Blanchett tells MTV News that she wants to make Marisa Acocella Marchetto's graphic novel "Cancer Vixen" into a movie
"Yes, it’s a comic novel, which I’m hoping will come up. It’s a really unique book. It’s about a cartoonist’s look at her contracting cancer, and the process of getting cancer"
Her production company acquired the film rights to the the book.
"It’s a tragic-comic look at it, so it needs a really particular, special filmmaker. I hope that happens."
Marchetto is also a cartoonist for periodicals The New Yorker and Glamour Magazine who battled breast cancer in 2004 and 2005 without health insurance.
The project sounds perfect for Blanchett. who is currently in the midst of appearing on stage playing several roles including that of Richard II for the Sydney Theatre Company.
