When Are Reshoots Ever A Good Thing?

Is the upcoming comic book flick X-Men Origins: Wolverine in trouble?

During an interview with the New York Post's Popwrap Blog, co-star Dominic Monaghan says that he's scheduled to do another ten days of filming on the flick in Vancouver at the end of the month.

Is it for a reshoot or additional material?

Monaghan says "We're doing a bit of both, more than anything else, it's an additional scene... my character features in a huge set piece with Hugh and Liev [Schreiber]. I think the best thing I can tell you is that it's a flashback scene."

Such action so close to the film's May 1st release date does raise concern in my book but is not a total shock either. The film has been surrounded by talk of difficulties for almost the entire shoot like Fox apparently interfering with director Gavin Hood's dark 1970's-like vision to make it more action-heavy and kid-friendly.

Superman director Richard Donner being on-set has started talk that his 'advisory capacity' on the production was a little more than that, and more than a few sources who've read the script or been involved in the production have referred to the film's last act as being "a mess". Remember he is married to producer Lauren Shuler Donner though...

Collider got in touch with Fox about the talk and the studio replied that the reshoots were "always planned and are intended to capture specific weather conditions".

Whet else would you expect them to say? Our only big novie of the summer is in trouble...

The site says that perhaps a set visit of the press during the reshoots shows that Fox is trying to show confidence, But-getting them to Vancouver is a lot cheaper than flying them all down under where a bulk of the film was shot.

Time will tell whether my concerns were right...Bur history seems-more often than not-to prove extensive reshoots mean bad things.
