It's over! As speculated earlier this week...Fox and Warner Bros. have settled the Watchmen case, ensuring the film is released as planned on March 6!
Though specific details haven't been released, according to The Hollywood Reporter-the studios are scheduled to present a settlement to Judge Gary Feess this morning and request that the case be dismissed.
Fox will not be a co-distributor on the $130 million film, nor will it co-own the property. It will share in revenue made from it. The deal is expected to involve a sizable cash payment and a percentage of the film's box office
Warners is going after producer Lawrence Gordon and his attorneys to reimburse the studio for costs of the settlement.
Here's the joint statement from both sides about the pact:
"Warner Bros. and Twentieth Century Fox have resolved their dispute regarding the rights to the upcoming motion picture Watchmen in a confidential settlement. Warner Bros acknowledges that Fox acted in good faith in bringing its claims, which were asserted prior to the start of principal photography. Fox acknowledges that Warner Bros. acted in good faith in defending against those claims Warner Bros. and Fox, like all Watchmen fans, look forward with great anticipation to this film's March 6 release in theatres."
What a relief! As a devotee of the book I am so jazzed...But this whole thing should have been resolved weeks ago...
Bring On The Flick!!
