Pennywise Returns

A feature film version of Stephen King's novel It is on the way--says The Hollywood Reporter.

The novel is set in 1958 and 1985, though the feature version will be set in the present day.

Dave Kajganich (The Invasion) has been hired to adapt the script about a group of teen misfits and outcasts (nicknamed 'The Losers Club') in 1958 who encounter It, a shape-shifting creature which feeds on children and whose favorite form is that of a sadistic clown called Pennywise. In 1985 the creature resurfaces, and the kids who're now adults must take on the demon of their childhood again - this time in a different form. The new film will update the period to contemporary times.

An effectively creepy TV mini-series debuted in 1990 based on the book and was highlighted by Tim Curry's turn as Pennywise.

Directed by Tommy Lee Wallace--The first half of the mini-series was masterfully executed--while the 2nd half toward the end sorta fell apart.

With less restrictions on content theatrically--the darker elements of the tale will most assuredly make it to the update.
