The family flick Race To Witch Mountain topped this weekend as Watchmen dropped to 2nd place...
Pamela McClintock of Variety:
Disney's family adventure "Race to Witch Mountain" raced to the top of the box office chart, beating Warner Bros. holdover "Watchmen."
Starring Dwayne Johnson and directed by Andy Fickman, "Witch Mountain"--a remake of the classic franchise--grossed $25 million from 3,187 theaters.
"Watchmen" dropped a hefty 67% from its opening weekend, grossing an estimated $18.1 million from 3,611 runs in its second sesh for a 10-day cume of $86 million.
Warners said the decline was in keeping with other event titles.
Rogue Pictures' horror remake "The Last House on the Left" came in on the lower end of expectations. Pic, distributed by Universal, grossed $14.7 million from 2,401 runs.
Weekend's fourth new wide release was Fox Atomic's raunchy comedy "Miss March," which only placed No. 10. Pic grossed an estimated $2.4 million from 1,742 runs.
Weekend was down from the same frame last year by more than 15%. It's the first weekend since late December that the domestic box office has been down. Leading the pack the same weekend a year ago was Fox's "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who," which debuted to $45 million.
