Entertainment Weekly.is reporting that Jerry O'Connell has joined the cast of Piranha 3-D, a remake of the 1978 Joe Dante-directed cult classicThe story is set around Lake Victoria in the mid-West when a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish.
Soon, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish bait.
O'Connell makes a fine addition to this very kitchy cast...
Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Richard Dreyfuss, Ving Rhames and Dina Meyer co-star as potential victims.
Meantime--MTV talked to producer Mark Canton who said, "We realized that with the advent of 3-D that we thought we could make the ultimate Jaws for this generation."
Which I guess makes the flick a double remake....
Alexandre Aja (Mirrors, The Hills Have Eyes) is directing the project and co-wrote the script with Hills and Mirrors scribe Gregory Levasseur, Peter Goldfinger (Sorority Row) and Josh Stolberg (Good Luck Chuck)
Filming kicks off next Monday at Lake Havasu, Arizona.
