The Negotiator

Author Bret Easton Ellis (pictured) has written an untitled original screenplay that's headed to the big screen says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story involves an awkward social outcast who takes a group of peers captive who humiliated him, with grim results.

Brad Furman (The Take) is set to direct.

Ellis' novels have been the inspiration for such films as 1987's Less Than Zero, the Christian Bale starring American Psycho and Roger Avary's 2002 The Rules of Attraction.

Shooting kicks off late summer.
