The Avengers: Skrulls Or Not?

New artwork and video game stills promoting The Avengers show off the antagonists for the film

There's also more promo artwork from that tie-in comic book "Road to the Avengers"--including a shot of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) as he will appear in the flick.

Eurogamer (via Bleeding Cool) also posted some footage and shots from the recently cancelled "The Avengers" tie-in game showing Thor (Chris Hemsworth) battling both a giant Skrull and a female Skrull.

The footage and pics promptly went bye-bye

Speculation is (never confirmed) that the folks seen in motion capture suits spotted on the Cleveland set were stand-ins for CG enhanced Skrulls. Others swear the Skrulls aren't in the film at all, and there is even an an issue as to whether Fox may hold part ownership of the name thanks to their retaining of the rights to the Fantastic Four universe.  Marvel suit Kevin Feige said two years ago "we do own them" but Fox still seemingly owns the Super-Skrull.

The gang at IGN have an interesting theory - saying that Loki's allies are the Chitauri, as part of Marvel's Ultimate Universe's version of the Skrulls. This allows Marvel to have alien shape shifters in the movie without actually calling them Skrulls and dealing with the rights issues...

Sounds plausible to me....

Meantime a featurette from the September 13th release of Thor on disc has made its way online--talking The Avengers movie---Does nothing more than get you pumped for the film

Robert Downey Jr Chris Evans Samuel L. Jackson Jeremy Renner Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgård, and Amanda Righetti star in the May 4, 2012 release written and helmed by Joss Whedon
