-"The Vow" scribes Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein are set to rewrite the adaptation of Rosalind Wiseman's "Mean Moms" says Variety The story will focus on a happily married mother of two who moves from small-town America to the high-class suburbs, where she faces the cutthroat world of competitive parenting.
-Bob Gale ("Back to the Future" trilogy) is on board to adapt Scott Hampton's supernatural graphic novel "Trespassers" for the big screen says Variety The story follows a group of mythbusters set on debunking the legend of a famous allegedly haunted house. Their rationality is put to the test when they discover demonic guardians, a gateway to hell and discover not all of them are exactly who they claim to be.
-Australian actors Cate Blanchett, Mia Wasikowska and David Wenham will all make their directorial debuts shooting segments for the upcoming anthology feature "The Turning" says The Hollywood Reporter. Based on author Tim Winton’s short story collection of the same name, the trio will join fourteen other directors on the project with each creating a chapter out of Winton’s work. The ensemble piece explores the extraordinary turning points in seemingly disparate but connected people’s lives, each chapter is self contained though characters and elements overlap.
-Imagine Entertainment is developing a film based on the life of legendary surrealist artist Salvador Dali says Deadline.
-Millennium NuImage has purchased Isaac Aptaker & Elizabeth Berger's rom-com spec script "Lauren Pemberton is No Longer in A Relationship" says Variety. The story focuses on a guy who reconnects with his high school crush through Facebook when he discovers she is single only to find out that he is not the only one in pursuit.
-Gran Via Prods. and Wild Fiesta Productions have picked up the film rights to Erin Duffy's recently published novel "Bond Girl" says Variety The story follows a college grad's efforts to crack an elitist boys' club at one of Wall Street's most esteemed firms. She begins to climb her way up to the top just as the financial crisis hits.
-The Tornante Company is set to finance and produce a feature film adaptation of the Topps trading cards series "Garbage Pail Kids" reports Deadline.
-GK Films has acquired the film rights to Rick Yancey's young adult sci-fi novel trilogy "The 5th Wave" reports Variety. The story follows a teenage girl who survives an alien invasion only to then search for her brother, who may or may not have been abducted by human-looking extra-terrestrials. She is helped by a boy who might also be an alien in disguise.
-With last year's 3D CG animated comedy "Gnomeo & Juliet" earning $194 million worldwide, Elton John’s Rocket Pictures has already begun work on a sequel - "Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes" reports Deadline.
-New Regency is in talks to finance an untitled drama which "Babel" helmer Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu will direct reports Variety. The story, based on Jennifer Vogel's novel "Flim-Flam Man: The True Story of My Father's Counterfeit Life", from the author's father's life in a criminal underworld. Sean Penn is reportedly keen on taking the lead role in the pic which will likely be titled "Red Flag" reports Vulture.
-Andre Ovredal ("Troll Hunter") has signed on to direct "Carpe Demon: The Adventures Of A Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom" says Moviehole.
-"24" co-creator Joel Surnow is set to helm "Small Time", a semi-autobiographical indie drama which he wrote and will produce with the help of independent financing says The Hollywood Reporter.
-Keir Pearson and Larry Meli have optioned life rights to a biopic about civil-rights activist and labor organizer Cesar Chavez reports Reuters. Chavez worked as a community organizer through the 50's up until the early 90's and fought for improved working conditions for California farm workers, eventually co-founding what would become the United Farm Workers union. Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna's Mexico-based Canana Films will produce the film with Meli while Pearson ("Hotel Rwanda") will pen the script
-Irish filmmaker Kealan O’Rourke ("The Boy in the Bubble") is attached to write and direct an animated film adaptation of Sean Rubin's upcoming graphic novel "Bolivar" for Warner Bros. Pictures says Heat Vision.
-Warner Bros. Pictures has picked up the film rights to William Landay's recent novel "Defending Jacob" reports Variety.The story follows quiet family man and master trial lawyer Andy Barber whose 14-year-old son is accused of the murder of a fellow teenage boy in the woods near their suburban home. Barber rallies to his son’s defense but the community turn against them both and his marriage begins to crumble as one of his own long buried secrets threatens to surface.
-C. Thomas Howell has joined the cast of Cole Mueller's indie crime drama "Magic Hour" says Variety. The story follows a young man who falls in with the local crime family in Venice Beach in the early '90s.
-Steve Carell is attached to the comedy "Magic Kingdom for Sale - SOLD!" based on the book by fantasy author Terry Brooks says Hollywood.com
-A sequel is on the way to the Indonesian action hit "The Raid" says Heat Vision.
