Zwart Takes On Revived Instruments

Director Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid remake) has taken over the revived big screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's supernatural novel series The Mortal Instruments says The Hollywood Reporter.

The adaptation was nixed by Sony Pictures in February and then picked up by Constantin Film...

Mortal follows Fray (Lily Collins who is attached to star) who has "The Sight" and can see both demons and Shadowhunters. When her mother is abducted, she is forced to learn about her bloodline and abilities in order to get her mother back.

Jessica Postigo and I. Marlene King wrote the adapted script. Robert Kulzer, Michael Lynne and Robert Shaye are producing.

Jamie Campbell Bower had been cast as Jace Wayland, one of the best Shadowhunters. Bower is not mentioned by THR in the article--The Jace role had Alex Pettyfer in talks for it at one point.

Scott Charles Stewart was set to helm but vacated after the collapse instead choosing to start work on a TV series based on his film Legion.

Production on Mortal Instruments is set to begin on August 15th in Toronto
