Furnace Gets Its Bad Guys; Ingelsby's Signal Sells

Billy Bob Thornton and Forest Whitaker have joined Scott Cooper's Out Of The Furnace, aka The Low Dweller according to Deadline.

Brad Ingelsby's script follows Slim (Christian Bale), a recently released con who just wants to live quietly and marry his long-time girlfriend (Zoe Saldana). When his brother (Casey Affleck) is murdered he swears to track down and punish those responsible.

Whitaker would play a sleazy bookie involved in the death, Thornton would play the main villain--a role that Viggo Mortensen was circling.

Robert Duvall is the top contender to play the hero’s uncle.

Back in 2008 the script was highly sought after attracting directors like Rupert Sanders and Ridley Scott as well as actor Mark Wahlberg.

Scott his brother Tony Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran will produce, with Brooklyn Weaver is executive producing.

Meantime another one of Furnace writer Ingelsby's spec scripts "The Signal" has been purchased says Deadline.

The story is described as a contained family-adventure film that has a sci-fi element and is set over the course of a family’s weekend getaway.

Steven Rales and Mark Roybal will produce that film.
