Two weeks away from the release of Christopher Nolan's bat-capper "The Dark Knight Rises" and anticipation is growing.
Yesterday the studio decided to release various promotional items for the film that will only cause the excitement to get even more intense.
Hero Complex has posted an excellent piece on director Nolan and included some niffty new photos of some of the sets.
Nolan says the primary goal of doing the film is "a unified statement, a real ending, a true conclusion", and the article author Geoff Boucher confirms that Nolan’s ending "takes Batman and his on-screen mythology to a place it has NEVER been before."
Some have wondered if this means our hero dies at the end of the film....
The article also includes an architectural metaphor for the trilogy - "a tale of different levels: the heights of the city, the street level and the underground of caves and sewers". Nolan adds that "the thematic idea is that the superficial positivity is being eaten away from underneath; we tried to make that quite literal."
The film's complete 49-page production notes have also gone online.
Christian Bale Tom Hardy Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt Marion Cotillard Josh Pence, Alon Aboutboul and Nestor Carbonell star along with a return of the trilogy's ensemble cast such as Morgan Freeman Gary Oldman and Michael Caine. Vermont Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy Cillian Murphy and Liam Neeson are also making cameos.
Matthew Modine Tom Conti Joey King Daniel Sunjata Diego Klattenhoff Christopher Judge "CSI: Miami" co-star Adam Rodriguez and Burn Gorman take on secondary roles. Rob Brown and Italian actor Massi Furlan have small roles in the film as well
Nolan called action on the DKR from a screenplay he wrote with bro Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Nolan and David S. Goyer that features Bane (Hardy) and Catwoman (Hathaway) plotting to take down Batman (Bale).
The sequel is set to hit theaters on July 20th, 2012.
