TWC Says "Southpaw" Worth The Fight

The Weinstein Company has picked up the rights to the troubled boxing drama "Southpaw" says The L.A. Times.

Originally rapper  Eminem was ready to play a welterweight boxer on the rise who brawls his way to the title, only to see his world crash down around him due to a tragedy. He then must begin his fight to reclaim past glory for himself and his young daughter.

Antoine Fuqua was due to direct from a script by Sons of Anarchy creator/exec producer Kurt Sutter.

Then DreamWorks Studios backed out. MGM and Sony Pictures stepped up to take over, only to put the film into turnaround.

Fuqua is still attached to direct, but it's unclear if this will be his next pic after he finishes with Olympus Has Fallen. Eminem is no longer involved in the film.
