The story follows Hazel ("The Descendants" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2 co-star Shailene Woodley) a sixteen-year-old cancer patient, who is forced by her parents to attend a support group. She soon meets and falls in love with seventeen-year-old Augustus Waters, an ex-basketball player and leg amputee.
No one is considered a front-runner at this point to play Augustus.
Filmmaker Josh Boone, whose film Stuck In Love made a splash at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, has the job of directing the film. Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber wrote the adapted screenplay.
Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce the pic.
Production hopes to start by the end of the year.
