Producer Scott Rudin has acquired the film rights to author Sheri Fink new non-fiction novel "Five Days At Memorial" says Deadline.
Fink's book takes a look at the decisions doctors made at Memorial Medical Center of New Orleans, LA around the time of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Overwhelmed by patients and without electrical power, the doctors were forced to make calculated decisions on which patients to save as anarchy and gunfire were heard outside the hospital.
The book charts an attempt to prosecute a doctor and two nurses for homicide after an investigation showed elevated levels of morphine and other drugs in 23 patients at the hospital.
Rudin and Eli Bush will produce the film.
