SDCC 2014: "Mad Max: Fury Road" Revs Up Hall H

Warner Bros gave the world its first look at George Miller's reboot of the Mad Max franchise "Mad Max: Fury Road" during its panel for San Diego Comic-Con. The response was quite enthusiastic...

Moderator Chris Hardwick asked Miller why he decided to return to the series:

"The story popped into my head and just wouldn't go away. Like an imaginary friend. I love chase movies, I think they're the purest form of cinema. That's where the film language started. I wanted to make one long extended chase and see what we can pick up from the characters and story along the way."

He says the film is closest to "The Road Warrior" because it happens over a short period of time and it's an extended chase, like that film because it happens over a short period of time and it's an extended chase, like that film. He also says star Tom Hardy has the same level of charisma and tension that made Mel Gibson such a great Max, even though Hardy has less than two dozen lines throughout the whole film:

"We all ask the question - what is charisma? Part of that is they have that internal tension. On one hand they are extremely lovable and on the other hand, there's a little bit of danger. I'm simplifying it. Tom has that quality. He's extremely lovable but also has a quality that's like watching a big wild animal - you don't know what they're going to do next. I've been lucky."

Miller says they couldn't use advanced vehicles or anything with a computer system really because they wouldn't survive the post-apocalyptic conditions:

"We had to say to the designers: 'You can only base it on real vehicles and only things likely to survive'. So things with too many computers and so on wouldn't survive. So that was the rule that we used when it came to the vehicles."

Here is the footage from the film that was screened at the event:

Four new character posters have also been released as well.
