Ferrell And McKay Launch "Manimal" Flick

Deadline reports that pals Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay ("Anchorman," "Step Brothers") will be teaming up yet again, to produce a film adaptation of the short-lived 1983 TV series "Manimal".

Simon MacCorkindale ("Death on the Nile") starred in the campy show as Dr. Jonathan Chase, a wealthy doctor with a mysterious past, who can shape shift into any animal he chooses in order to help the police fight crime. Melody Anderson ("Flash Gordon") and Michael D. Roberts ("Baretta") co-starred. Only eight episodes aired before the drubbed show was cancelled, though it has since developed a cult following.

The film version will be a live-action and CG-animated combo and will re-envision the material as an action comedy.

It's unclear if Ferrell will star. McKay will not direct though--the search for a helmer is on. Jay Martel and Ian Roberts ("Key and Peele") will write the script.

Glen A. Larson ("Magnum P.I.," "Knight Rider,") created the original show and will serve as producer on the film with Ferrell McKay and Jimmy Miller.
