THR reports that Megan Ellison and her Annapura Pictures will rescue the period revenge thriller "The Revenant" after Worldview Entertainment backed out of co-financing the film with New Regency.
Worldview has pulled back on film financing following last month's departure of its CEO amid possible personal misconduct.
Based on author Michael Punke's novel,
the story follows Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) a gold-seeking fur trapper who is mauled by a bear.
When the two men who are were supposed to take care of him rob him and
leave him to die alone, the man wills himself to survive and goes on a
350 mile journey though the wilderness.
Leo's "Inception" co-star Tom Hardy replaces Sean Penn who was attached to co-star in the pic a few years ago. We're the Millers star Will Poulter is in line to co-star.
Alejandro González Iñárritu is directing from an adapted screenplay he co-wrote with Mark L. Smith (The Hole),
González Iñárritu Steve Golin, Keith Redmon, David Kanter, Arnon Milchan and James W. Skotchdopole are producing the film.
Production is still slated to begin in September ahead of a Fall 2015 release.
