We know that Dwayne Johnson has been talking with DC Comics and Warner Bros. at different points over the years to find the right character for him to play.
Johnson has been linked to play Black Adam in the defunct Shazam film for DC. He has also been linked to play the title character Lobo in a film about the alien bounty hunter.
Today, in an interview with Total Film promoting Friday's "Hercules," Johnson says they have narrowed down the possibilities to one character and it will be announced soon. He even suggests who this character might be:
"I will say this. There's a character out there that we're going to announce very soon that I'm going to play, and I'll just say this: This character has the power of Superman... and it's not Green Lantern by the way... he can throw down. Just say the word. That's all I'm going to say."
Last month there were rumors that a "Shazam" solo film is following the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" as part of the Cinematic Universe--a July 2016 release is being targeted.
Could the announcement Johnson is referring to be made at this Saturday's WB panel during Comic-Con?

DC comics (aside from Batman) don't excite me as much as Marvel, but whoever The Rock plays, I think he'll do a good job. He's one of the best action stars out there right now.
