SDCC 2014: "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" Swoops In

The panel for Joss Whedon's superhero team up sequel "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" began by explaining that the director couldn't make it--He is laid up in London following knee surgery and isn't allowed to fly.

Almost the entire main cast was there though - Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Clark Gregg, Mark Ruffalo, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Spader New mother Scarlett Johansson had to sit this San Diego Comic-Con out.

RDJ entered Hall H throwing roses and dancing to a Jackson 5 song. Making his way to the stage he cracked jokes about how with each casting addition he becomes a little less significant.

Hemsworth had a great line when asked what he'd like to see Thor do. He responded "Turn him into a woman" and joked that doing so would probably earn him an Oscar.

An amused Spader said: "I used to think that life could never get weird or crazy enough for me, but this is the weirdest, craziest place... I play an eight-foot robot in this movie, I had always played humans up until then."

The footage screened started off with a scene that's been described before - the Avengers hanging out together at a party, in their civilian clothing, with them all trying to lift Thor's hammer - the only one who can even nudge it is Captain America. The party is over though when Ultron crashes it and says "There's only one path to peace. Your extinction."

Cut to a montage of scenes - tanks in the snow, Bruce Banner in a straight jacket, Black Widow's new costume, a jaw-dropping sequence in which Stark's Hulk-buster armor takes on The Hulk, Ultron in his finished form saying: "Look... No string on me," Stark voice-over: "It's the end. The end of the path I started us on," and a shot of the Avengers lying bruised and beaten on the ground before Stark.

The went nuts after the brief bit of footage was shown. Josh Brolin who plays Thanos arrived wearing an Infinity Gauntlet-confirming what's in store for "The Avengers 3". Brolin demanded of Downey "Where's my rose". Downey hands him one and Brolin ate it.
