Deep Blue See

James Cameron talked to USA Today about Avatar's 3-D home video release and said a re-release might happen.

"We're not officially announcing it [The 3-D Blu-ray] right now but I'm hoping for fall. The wildcard is that we might be re-releasing the movie this fall. It's kind of gotten stomped out because of Alice in Wonderland ".

He adds "The word we're getting back from exhibitors is we probably left a couple of hundred million dollars on the table as a result. The question is the appetite still going to be there after the summer glut of movies. We're going to assess that. We're talking about maybe adding in additional footage and doing something creative."

Later The Hollywood Reporter added that discussions are taking place about re-releasing Tar primarily in 3-D theaters, by late summer.

Cameron left out 40 minutes of additional material which didn't make the theatrical cut, with 10-12 minutes of extra scenes already cut which could be put through post in no time ready for a theatrical reissue.

He's also planiung a Spring 2012 release date, the 100th anniversary of the ship's launch for a 3-D re-release of his '97 film Titanic
