Barry Pepper has joined the cast of the True Grit remake says Variety.
Pepper will play the role of "Lucky" Ned Pepper-- the notorious outlaw that was played by Robert Duvall in director Henry Hathaway's 1969 original.
Ethan and Joel Coen direct the he project from a script they adapted from Charles Portis' original novel about a 14-year-old girl who, along with an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman, tracks her father's killer in hostile Indian territory. The new film will differ from that of the '69 version and tell the tale from the girl's point of view.
Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Hailee Steinfeld co-star
Scott Rudin is producing with the Coens. Steven Spielberg is serving as executive producer.
