Michael Mann and Paul Haggis are teaming up to develop the contemporary thriller Gold, which is said to be in the vein of the classic The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. says THR

The script was written as a spec by Patrick Massett and John Zinman, and centers on prospectors and speculators on the hunt for gold

Haggis, Mann and Michael Nozik will produce the pic with the intention for Mann to sit in the big chair as well.

 Haggis was initially looking to direct the film himself before deciding his plate was too full. He then brought the script to Mann who in turn sent it to actor Leo DiCaprio to read

The hope is to begin production late in the year.

Mann has mot directed anthing since 2009's Public Enemies, (but with a few other posiblities in the pipeline) and although he's producing the upcoming pic The Fields--he really needs to get back at it soon.
