“Out of the Furnace” Gets Rewrite New Director

When the script for the Indiana-set Low Dweller was first purchased, the film was set to again pair up director Ridley Scott and actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Well, things have changed since then.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Scott Cooper, who directed the Oscar-winning drama Crazy Heart, made a deal with Relativity to direct this film – now titled Out of the Furnace – as well as give the script a polish..

The script focuses on “Slim, a man released after serving years in prison for murder who wants only to follow through on his promise to marry his long-suffering girlfriend. But when he discovers his brother has been murdered after getting involved in a gambling racket, his goals change and he avenges the murder.”

Though Crazy Heart certainly isn’t perfect, Cooper handles the material well enough to save the film from its own melodrama. Additionally, he directed Jeff Bridges to an Oscar-winning performance that some consider the best of his impressive career. I’m curious to see how he handles this particular story.

How do you feel about Scott Cooper joining this project?
